My Visit to LA: A Mission for Information
Four busy days in LA revived my mission of the podcast and why I feel so strongly about celebrating the work of talented TV women. Hollywood is in the business to make money. I encountered this often in four days, from the story of how the famous Hollywood sign came to be (and be preserved), to the materials I read (L.A. Law, Family and One Day at a Time scripts, for example) at the Writers Guild of America archive. This trip reminded me just how demanding and brutal show biz is, and at what cost progress for women has been, in front of or behind the camera. My research for my book was mostly successful and I came away with connections and ideas for future episodes of Advanced TV Herstory.
Stay tuned for our November 2026 episode (audio and video), where I’ll share observations and a sincere amount of gushing about the interesting women I met with and the nice people at The Paley Center who helped me find a suitable location to record with Hunter‘s Stepfanie Kramer. Kramer, still a fan-favorite around the world, shared her insights into how American TV gives confidence to viewers from around the world. It’s important to recognize the perseverance and resilience from women who built the foundation.
These experiences will stay with me, and manifest in the podcast, for years to come.
