Strike announcement by Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA

SAG-AFTRA & The WGA Strike: The Virtual Picket Line

SAG-AFTRA & The WGA Strike? I join thousands on the virtual picket line that respects the work, wage structure and futures of entertainment writers and performers. The unions are the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Two episodes of Advanced TV Herstory salute the leadership and commitment of the actors’ and writers’ unions that are on strike in the summer of 2023. I learned a lot researching the entertainment industry labor movement. For instance, nationally, these unions often set the pace for others.

Production had slowed during the COVID pandemic, and most work is shuttered. Our listeners know that most of our episodes reference a series or single episode, which are the work product of countless union workers. Writers, directors and technical crew are the backbone production that create the stage for a union actor to do their work.

The SAG-AFTRA and the WGA strike is over issues that will determine the future of entertainment. I respect for those matters being negotiated. Therefore, episodes since July have focused on topics other than a series or specific episodes. This practice will continue until there’s a settlement for both unions.
