Depth and Impact of Pop Culture

In March I attended the Pop Culture Association national conference in  Chicago. It’s the annual gathering of media and cultural studies folks  and offers an array of fascinating panels. Yes, I scout the panels for  potential guests and troll the exhibition room where publishers promote their wares destined for syllabi, pleasure reading and occasionally this  podcast.

Lucky  for us I was able to interview PCA President Sherry Ginn about her work  leading the organization and her path to pop culture (via sci-fi, Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and a PhD). Episode Talking Sci-Fi with a Scientist, was released last week.

One of my goals for Advanced TV Herstory has been to create a fact-based resource for students and scholars. My  membership in the PCA as well as support of the Geena Davis Institute on  Gender in Media provides me a pipeline of ideas and guests you won’t  find on any other podcast.
